Mr. Lonnie “Al” Wood, 91, of Slocomb, AL passed peacefully and was escorted by angels to see Jesus on Tuesday, August 30, 2022. He was reunited with his loved ones and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 3, 2022 in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Slocomb with Rev. Ennis Hyman and Rev. Steve Ethridge officiating. Burial will follow in the Memory hill Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb directing.

The family will receive friends on Saturday at the funeral home beginning at 9:00 a.m. and continuing until service time.

Al was born May 1, 1931 to the late Richard and Annie Hughes Wood. While living in Ft. Lauderdale, FL he worked as a meat cutter with Winn Dixie where he eventually was promoted to the meat market manager. After moving back to South Alabama in 1977 he worked at several different grocery stores and meat packing plants. Al served in the Alabama Army National Guard and will be dearly missed.

In addition to his parents, grandson, David W. Yarbrough, Sr.; sister, Bessie Mae Shirley; brothers: John Ivey and Jack Wood; son in law, David H. Yarbrough all preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Beth wood; sons: Fred Wood (Alicia), Phil Wood (Bobbi), and Jimmy Wood (Lela); daughters: Virginia Meredith (BJ) and Penny Wood; 17 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren; sisters: Addie Mae Paul, and Annie Pearl Campbell; brother, Eugene Wood (Joyce); numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
