Vera “Jan” Franklin Hallmark of Samson went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 8, 2026. She was 88.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at First Baptist Church of Samson, with Rev. Travis Free officiating. Interment will follow in Travelers Rest Cemetery, with Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb directing. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

Born May 15, 1938, in Jefferson County, Alabama, Jan was the cherished daughter of the late James Franklin and Marjorie Izora Adams Franklin Phillips. Jan graduated from Enterprise High School in 1956, where she was honored as Miss Enterprise. Throughout her life, she embraced many roles with grace and dedication. She was a devoted military wife and homemaker, and she also built a career serving others. She managed the Green Island Hills Country Club, Ft. Benning Officer’s Club, and later managed an assisted living facility in the Atlanta area, where her caring nature and compassion touched the lives of many. Jan was a faithful member of Samson First Baptist Church and the Samson Garden Club. She also faithfully supported Celebrate Recovery, giving her time and heart to a ministry that helped others find hope, healing, and encouragement. Of all the places she loved, her paradise was the family farm. There, she found simple joy and peace, especially in watching the sunset. The farm was a special place where she could pause, reflect, and enjoy the beauty of God’s creation. Jan will be remembered for her caring heart, her strength, her faith, and the love she gave so freely to her family, friends, and community. Her life was one of service, devotion, and quiet moments of beauty that will remain treasured in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her father, James Franklin; her mother, Marjorie Izora Adams Franklin Phillips; her husband, Robert Charles Hallmark, Sr.; her stepfather, Norman Wyatt “Bub” Phillips; her brother, William Lester Franklin; and sons-in-law, James Benny Beavers and Gary William Adamson; as well as numerous cherished aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Donna Van Hallmark Beavers Townsend (Doug), Ronda Ann Hallmark Adamson, and Robert Charles Hallmark, Jr. (Peggy); grandchildren, Travis Beavers (Savannah), Troy Beavers (Nicole), Carol Adamson, Deborah Adamson, Brian Adamson, Victoria Wright (Evan), Donnavan Lewis (Rusty), James Barfield (Rosario), Ashley Hooks (Ryan), Charles Hallmark (Lindsey), and Joshua Hallmark (Kate); and numerous beloved great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, who affectionately called her “G-Ma-Jan.”

She is also survived by other extended family members and countless friends who will deeply treasure her memory.

Mrs. Hallmark leaves behind a legacy of love, family, and treasured memories that will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. May she rest in the peace and presence of her Lord and Savior.
