Terry G. Sorrells
Founder and Owner
Terry G. Sorrells and his late wife, Terri Lynn, have spent a lifetime dedicated to service, forging a legacy in the funeral industry that spans over five decades. Their journey has been a testament to faith, hard work, and an unwavering passion for helping others. Together, they have built and shaped multiple funeral businesses, raising the bar for professionalism and compassion within the industry.
Terry and Terri Lynn’s journey began with a dream he shared----to build a funeral home in their hometown of Hartford where they both grew up and graduated high school, naming it Meadowlawn Funeral Home and then expanding into Slocomb with the building of Sorrells Funeral Home, LLC which opened in January 2000. Their success continued, with the addition of two more locations: Sorrells Funeral Home, LLC Geneva in 2002 and Sorrells Funeral Home, Inc of Enterprise in 2009, which included the addition of Sorrells Crematory and Enterprise Pet Crematory all on the same site. Each of these locations would become pillars of the community, known for their strong commitment to dignity, respect and service.
After 50 years in the funeral business, and with much prayer and consideration, Terry and Terri Lynn made the difficult decision to step back and focus on more family time. In November 2015, they sold the location in Geneva to their dedicated employees, and in May 2018, the Enterprise location was sold to another local friend. The sale of these businesses allowed Terry and Terri Lynn to return to their roots in Hartford and Slocomb, where Terry continues to serve through Sorrells Funeral Home in Slocomb---a true labor of love and dedication.
Sadly, Terri Lynn passed away after a courageous battle with dementia. Though she is now in Heaven, her legacy continues to live on through the lives she touched, the businesses she helped build, and the family she cherished.
Terry’s career is one marked by dedication and leadership. He is a licensed funeral director and embalmer in both Alabama and Florida, as well as a licensed insurance agent. In 1993-1994, he served as president of the Alabama Funeral Directors Association and in 2024, Terry was humbled to be appointed to the Alabama Board of Funeral Service by Governor Kay Ivey. This appointment recognized his decades of commitment and leadership within the funeral service industry, further solidifying his influence and role in shaping the future of funeral service in Alabama. Throughout his life, Terry has also been an active member of his local communities, participating in organizations such as the Lions Club, Kiwanis Club, Civitan Club, Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, and more. He is also a proud Master Mason and Shriner.
In the midst of the shared grief of losing companions, Terry found a new chapter of joy and love with a lifelong friend, Mary Ann Shields. Both having experienced deep loss, their shared grief blossomed into a beautiful love story. Terry and Mary Ann were married, finding new hope and happiness in each other’s company. Terry and Mary Ann share a daughter, Wendy, who is married to Mark; four sons: Casey (who lives in Heaven) Kerry “Bubba,” Joshua, and Brandon, who is married to Suzanne. He is also a doting grandfather to seven grandchildren: Logan (who lives in Heaven), Cameron, Brooks, Cooper, Rosemary, Grady (who lives In Heaven), and Ronnie. His love for his family is immeasurable, and their support has been an enduring source of strength throughout his life.
Terry G. Sorrells’ legacy is one of service, love, and faith. With over 50 years in the funeral industry, he remains a trusted figure and a beloved member of the Slocomb community, where his story continues. To set up site-wide paragraph and title styles, go to Site Theme.
