Jackie leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, service, and devotion that will continue through the generations.
Jacqueline “Jackie” B. Hicks Collins, 89, of the Malvern Community, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 2, 2026. She was surrounded by her loving family.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 4, 2026 at Malvern Baptist Church, with Reverend Hosea Parker officiating and Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb directing. Interment will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
Born on November 10, 1936, in the Pate’s Creek Community near Wicksburg, Jackie was the daughter of the late Melton and Kate Pate Benefield. Jackie was a 1955 graduate of Slocomb High School, where she was a cheerleader. She later married her first husband, Reverend John Wayne Hicks, and together they devoted many years to gospel ministry. Their years in ministry provided Jackie with many opportunities to share her faith and serve others. Jackie also enjoyed a long and fulfilling career in the banking industry before later serving as a pre-need counselor in the funeral industry. Throughout her professional life, she developed a genuine love for people and found great satisfaction in helping others. She continued working in the funeral industry until her retirement. Above all, Jackie was a loving wife, devoted mother, and adoring grandmother who treasured her family above all else. She found great joy in spending time with those she loved and making memories with her family. Her warm heart, steadfast faith, and love for others touched the lives of many. Jackie leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, service, and devotion that will continue through the generations. While she will be deeply missed by her family and friends, they find comfort in knowing that she is now at home with her Lord and Savior.
In addition to her parents, Jackie was preceded in death by her first husband and the father of her children, Reverend John Wayne Hicks; her brothers, Joe Mack Benefield and Billy Benefield; and her parents-in-law, Charlie and Lillie Ponds Hicks.
Survivors include her husband, Larry Collins; her children, Janet Hughes (Kim), Kelly Collins, Steve Hicks (Susan), Gerry Hicks (Dawn), and Chuck Collins (Martie); her grandchildren, Drew Hicks (Renee), Jamison Hicks (Jessica), John David Hughes (Sara), Kevin Hughes (Tori), Chad Hicks (Meredeth), Dave Pollard (Carly), Gabrielle Collins, Christalle Twomey (Brek), Christopher Bodiford (Ashley), and Joshua Bodiford (Courtni); and her great-grandchildren, Emma Kate Hughes, Amelia Hughes, Keller Hughes, Ruby Hughes, Natalea Hicks, Brinlea Hicks, Weston Bodiford, Benjamin Bodiford, Wells Bodiford, Ellis Bodiford, Cameron Hicks, Lilliana Hicks, Emily Rose Hicks, Marlie Pollard, and Maggie Pollard.
She is also survived by her sister, Opal Purvis; her brother-in-law, Ken Hicks (Betty); her sister-in-law, Lounell Hicks; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Grace Spivey, Barbara Toole, and Peggy Scott; and a host of other family members and friends.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Jackie’s caregiver, Edna Beachem, and the entire staff of Gentiva Hospice for the love, kindness, and compassionate care they provided. Special thanks are extended to Baily, Jada, Cindi, Kaitlin, and Kaylee for the comfort and support they gave Jackie and her family.
