Mrs. Betty Joyce Smith of Cottonwood passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at her home. She was 82.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 28, 2022 in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Slocomb City Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb directing.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m. and continuing until service time.
Mrs. Smith was born January 25, 1940 in Geneva County to the late James Wesley and Binie Mahakie Payne Phillips.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Howard “Hal” Smith; son, Steve Benefield; siblings: Nettie Cook, Nellie Kirkland, Ora Mae Smith, Jane Palmer, Johnny Phillips, Myrtis Sasser, Marie Harris, Bobbie Shirah, Core “Doll” Turner, and Margie Hicks; granddaughter, April Decraene all preceded her in death.
Survivors include her daughter, Sharon Allen, Cottonwood; sons: Faron Benefield, Anniston, Dewayne Benefield, Cottonwood, and Michael Benefield, Cottonwood; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
