Mr. Charlie D. Dowling, Jr of Hartford passed away Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at his home. He was 76.

A Celebration of Life Service will be 12 noon Saturday, October 9, 2021 at Sorrells Funeral Home Chapel in Slocomb with Rev. Keener Batchelor officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 11:00 a.m. and continuing until service time.

Mr. Dowling was born September 20, 1945 in Hartford to the late C.D. and Gladys Snuggs Dowling. He played various sports such as football and basketball during his high school years at Geneva County until he graduated in 1963. From there he went on to graduate from Troy University with a Bachelor of Science degree. Throughout the rest of his life he continued to play various sports and especially loved playing sports with his children and grandchildren. He was an avid Auburn Tigers football fan and also enjoyed time fishing. He especially loved attending Harvest Church where he served as a Stephen Minister, and holding a small group in his home. Charlie was one of the most hardworking and caring men you could ever meet and will be remembered as such. 

Survivors include his wife, Debbie McDuffie Dowling; a daughter, Marcie Sawyers; sons: Alan, Vance, and Charlie Dowling III (Chuck); grandchildren: Haley (Adam) Rykard, Casey (Tanner) Riddle, Tyler Dowling, John-David (Simran) Sawyers, Mason Dowling, Elijah Sawyers, Carley Dowling, Gracie (Allen) Baxter Levi Castro, and Ava Charlie Dowling; and great grandchildren: Ella Grace Riddle, Arthur Sawyers, Hattie Virginia Rykard, and Brody Riddle; a brother, Robert S. Dowling (Virginia); numerous nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.
