Mr. David Gerald Harris of Slocomb, Alabama passed away, Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at his home. He was 82. 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 27, 2025, at the First Baptist Church of Slocomb with Rev. Brad Price and Rev. Lee Chorn officiating and Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb directing. Interment will follow in the Fadette Pentecostal Ministries Church Cemetery. 

The family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 1:00 p.m. until service time. 

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in David’s memory to the First Baptist Church of Slocomb Building Fund or the New Teamon Baptist Church Building Fund. 

Mr. Harris was born June 29, 1942, in Dothan, Alabama to the late Henry Grady and Mary Celester Lessie Dean Harris. David was a graduate of Slocomb High School. He served 42 years in the Army National Guard and upon his retirement, he began an adventure in the Bait Business until he completely retired to other hobbies. During his life, he served as a Sunday School teacher at First Baptist Church of Slocomb, volunteered as a fireman and EMT with the Slocomb Volunteer Fire & Rescue, and loved playing "Santa" for the children in his community and for a special young man, Brian Jones. David enjoyed taking "lots" of pictures, fishing and working outside. 

In addition to his parents, siblings: Grady L. Harris, and Katherine H. Capron; and daughter-in-law, Jada Harris, all preceded him in death. 

Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Rachel Register Harris, Slocomb: daughter, Connie Rene Harris Brown (Gary), New Market; son, Michael Glen Harris, Brandywine, MD; daughter, Teresa Harris Reeder (Glenn), Slocomb; nine grandchildren: Shawn Brown, Daryl Brown, Anthony Harris, Ashley Harris-Petrie, Anna Harris, Zachary Harris, Jeffrey Harris, Alex Reeder, Brittany Reeder Brannon; one great grandson; Caelum Harris-Petrie "Bean"; twin brother, Steve E. Harris (Judy); sisters: Willia Dean "Corky" Schulman, and Era Jo Holmes; brother, Jerry Harris (Liz); and several nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends. 

The family wishes to thank a special brother-in-law, William “Bill” Register; sister-in-law, Anne Register, a special family friend, Judean Killingsworth & staff from Gentiva Hospice for their dedication and compassionate and loving care.
