Celebration of Life services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, April 14, 2014 at First Baptist Church of Slocomb with Rev. Brad Price, Rev. Carlisle Weed and Rev. Scott Byrd officiating and with Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory of Slocomb directing.

Bro. Dan was born May 21, 1953 in Washington County, FL to the late Charles Burton and Deravene Conaway Raley. Bro. Dan possessed a humble and compassionate spirit and epitomized Christ as he walked with him daily. He was active in gospel ministry for over 45 years. He was not only the pastor of the First Baptist Church of Slocomb for over 28 years; he was, in fact, the pastor of the entire Slocomb Community. When not engaged in ministry, Bro. Dan enjoyed spending time relaxing at his lake house, fishing with his grandchildren and spending time with family and friends. His message was Christ, his hope was heaven; he fought a good fight, finished his course, kept the faith and has now received from his Lord a crown of righteousness.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Cecilia Godwin Raley, Slocomb; one daughter, Brittany Berry (Mark), Slocomb; two sons: Braxton Raley (Alexis), LaGrange, GA and Brantley Raley (Je Hui), Ramstein AFB, Germany; seven grandchildren: Trenton, Tanner, Logan, Asher, Madden, Savannah and Salinger; one sister, Cheryl Andrews (Bill), Dothan; nieces, nephews, extended family and his brothers and sisters in Christ.

Mrs. Raley, and Brittany. Baby I want to extend my deepest sympathy to all of you for the loss of my brother In Christ & your wonderful husband & Brittany's wonderful dad. I talked to brother Raley about three months ago & he booked me for a concert May 4, for the Sunday morning. It's going to be so different ministering at the church and him not being there. But I know he Will be there in spirit & we will dedicate the whole concert/service to him. As hard as it will be, I'm looking forward to seeing you again. You are such a wonderful woman of God. And I'm honored to call you my family. We are definitely praying for you sweetheart. I love you so much with all my heart & please give Britney a kiss from me.

Stephanie Leavins

Cheryl Barrow

Cecelia, my heart & prayers go out to you, your children & grandchildren! It's been forever since you & Dan were at Goodhope, but I have so many great memories from then. We were all so young & Dan was like another teenager, when he came to lead us! You both were such a blessing to me, Doyle, our church & community. Love to you all, Cheryl & Doyle Barrow

Todd & Lisa Shaw

Cecilia & family, Our prayers go up for you all during this difficult time. Dan was so instrumental in encouraging Todd as he began his vocational ministry! We are sorry for your loss and the loss of such a great Kingdom servant on this earth. May you be comforted by your memories of his godliness and God's love. After FL Baptist, Todd went on to serve as youth minister at churches in Jensen Beach, FL and Ocala, FL, as asst. pastor of a country venue church in Ocala, and then on to form a non-profit ministry that served the racing community as a track chaplain. I have served as youth teacher, nursery director, ladies' Bible study leader, women's ministry coordinator, and have been involved with prison ministry for 14 years, along with homeschooling our two children. Our family has been greatly impacted by the many lessons learned along the way, including our time in Malvern & Dothan. Our son, an Eagle Scout, graduates from high school this year and will be studying Police Science to become a public servant. Our daughter will begin high school in the fall and they both serve in the youth praise band. We appreciate the contributions to our spiritual growth while we were there under Dan's leadership and we are confident that the many lives he has touched along the way have been similarly impacted. We're sure you'll hear many stories of how he's helped many others. Earth will be the lesser and Heaven greater for his absence & presence, respectively. We hope you and your family feel the prayers being sent for you. Deepest condolences.

Cecilia, I count it among my many blessings to have known and spent time with both Bro. Dan and you on my range. I'm sure you could have found a better 'coach' anywhere, but appreciate the time we had together. Bro. Dan was indeed a 'called' man of God who lived for his Savior daily; who pined for the lost; encouraged the saints; and exalted our Savior. He will be sorely missed here upon this earth, but is far better off praising our Lord in His presence. In this your time of need, may God grant you peace beyond all understanding and may He bless and comfort you and your family each moment of each day.

Pat Brantley McHargue

Cecilia and family. Jerry and I extend our condolences to you and your family. You will be in our prayers.

Rodney Harper

As a young pastor in Slocomb in the 1990's, Bro. Dan was always an encouragement to me. He was not only a great preacher but a good-hearted man who always had a kind word for everyone. We both shared a passion for collecting sports cards and shared together our hobby experiences. I appreciated his "realness". I remember how he supported and cheered on each of his children at the Slocomb High football games. When someone like him goes to be with the Lord, there is a deep sadness in this present realm that the world has lost something good that will only be regained on the other side when all those who know Christ go to be with him. I consider it an honor and a privelege to have had Bro. Dan as a part of my life during that brief time while I was a pastor in Slocomb. May God Bless and Comfort all his family and friends.

Debbie Davis Hester

I'm so sorry to hear about Dan's passing. His dad was our pastor when we were young teens. His family ministered wonderfully to our community and Dan was a good friend. While I know he's in a better place, my heart breaks for his family. I recently lost my dad and know how difficult it is to lose those we love. Know that I am praying for your family today and in the days ahead. May our Heavenly Father wrap His loving arms around you even now.

One of the greatest men of GOD I have ever known. He was more that my pastor he was a friend. He gave so much of his time for his church & his church family. Always there to give a hug or a kind word of encouragement. We lost our grandfather a week ago & Bro. Dan gave me a call to let me know we were in his thoughts. That's the kind of man he was, just a phone call. He was so giving of his time. What a legacy for his family always remember the man he was & thank you to the family for sharing this man with the rest of us in the church & the community. Thank you Bro. Dan for giving to the LORD!!! I know you have a great place in the kingdom of heaven.
