On Wednesday, September 3, 2025, angels came and carried Penny Sue Wood into the loving arms of her Lord. She was 65.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, September 13, 2025, at The First Baptist Church of Slocomb with Minister Diane Dowling officiating and Sorrells Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday one hour prior to service time.

Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made in Penny’s honor to, Wiregrass Humane Society P.O. Box 1045 Dothan, AL 36302 or Mission of Mercy Vet Clinic, 3505 Montgomery Hwy STE 5, Dothan, AL 36303.

Penny was born on November 4, 1959, to Nancy Beth Hyman Wood and the late Lonnie Alfred Wood in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. She grew up, attended school, and was a member of the 1st Church of the Nazarene in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Penny was involved in many church activities including the youth group, choir, and the church band. After moving to Slocomb in 1977, she finished high school and graduated from Slocomb High School. Penny never forgot her spiritual needs, even as a teenager, because she became a member of Slocomb Baptist Church and became deeply involved again in the youth group of the church. She also continued to be involved with the public and people by working for years in the grocery business and then at Dove Christian Supply in Dothan. Penny never had any children of her own but considered and loved all of her nieces and nephews as if they were her own children.

Lonnie Alfred Wood, her father; grandparents Rufus and Addie Hyman, Richard and Annie Wood; several aunts and uncles all preceded her in death.

Penny is survived by mother, Nancy Beth Wood; brothers: Fred Wood (Alicia), Phil Wood (Bobbi), Jimmy Wood (Lela); sister, Virginia Meredith (BJ), and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends.
