Mr. Franklin D. Knight of Slocomb, Alabama passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was 89.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00AM on Monday, August 25, 2025 in the Whitaker Methodist Cemetery with reverend Cliff Knight officiating and Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb directing.

The family will receive friends following the graveside service.

Mr. Dee was born October 4, 1935, in Geneva County, Alabama to the late Herbert Walter and Lecy Morgan Knight.  Dee had a great love for agriculture, the outdoors and nature. He enjoyed being on his tractor and working in the garden. He was known for his sunflower fields. He was a humble and kind man that would open his heart’s door to everyone he knew. If he ever had the slightest thought that you were in need, he would give you his “last dime” in order to help. He also had a special love for his cats and special dog, LuLu.

In addition to his parents, the love of his life and wife for 50 years, Ivey Hida Thorne Knight; twelve full brothers and sisters, one half-sister all preceded him in death. After the passing of his wife in 2007, Dee remained true to her for the remainder of his life, never forsaking her until his last breath was taken. He was the last remaining member of his family.

Survivors include daughters: Julie Knight (Slocomb), Donna Hughes (Gainesville, GA), Lorey Wright (Jim) of Slocomb; sons: Glen Knight (Cindy) of Wicksburg, AL, Larry Knight (Joyce) of Slocomb; four grandchildren and three step grandchildren.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Southern Care Hospice, Ms. Connie and Ms. Desi for all the care and compassion shown to Mr. Dee.
