Mr. Joseph Russell McAllister of Newton (Wicksburg Community) passed away April 27, 2021 at Southeast Health. He was 76. 

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at Bay Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Cox officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb directing. 

The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday beginning at 9:00 a.m. and continue until service time. 

The family request that everyone attending please observe social distancing and wear a mask. 

Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to Bay Springs Baptist Church Building Fund, 1721 South Bay Springs Road, Dothan, AL 36305. 

Russell was born July 14, 1944 in Henry County to the late Merle and Imogene McAllister. Russell proudly served in the United States Navy. He was an avid gardener, loved fishing, hunting and spending time outdoors. Russell’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy. He will be dearly missed. 

In addition to his parents, his grandson, Brent Baker preceded him in death. 

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Mary Helen (Faulk) McAllister; children: Tina Hollinger, James McAllister (Susan), John McAllister (Stacey), and Samantha Parker (Chris); brother, Randall McAllister (Sherry); grandchildren: Courtney Couture, Brandon Henderson, Jeff Miller, Landen McAllister, Kaylen McAllister, Carlee McAllister, Madilyn McLendon, Hunter McLendon, Mackenzie Parker, and Taylor Parker; great-grandchildren: Brielle Couture, Brinley Couture, and Monroe Henderson. Nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.  

The family would like to thank special friends, Don and Sarah Hatcher, Richard and Barbara McWhirter, Meylan and Lucille Searcy for their continuous love and support.
