Mrs. Cora Lee Britt Brooks of County Road 28, Slocomb, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, December 15, 2013 at her home. She was 93. 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 20 in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home with Apostle Bobby Frison, Pastor of 1st Holiness Church officiating.  Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory of Slocomb directing. 

 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until service time. 

 

Sister Brooks was the first child born to the late York and Bessie Gartman Britt on July 28, 1920 in Enterprise, Alabama. At the age of 20 she married Bert Brooks and raised nine children. She was of the Holiness faith.

 

In addition to her parents, Sister Brooks was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bert Brooks; one daughter, Gladys Brooks; two sisters: Annie Will Boutwell and Suzie Foster; three brothers: Eugene Britt, Edward Britt and Carl Brady Britt.

 

She leaves to cherish her memory four daughters: Jeanette McMiller, Greenville, SC, Shirley Baxter (Arthur), Cowarts, Mary Jean Brooks (Charles), Dothan and Patience Johnson, Dalton, GA; five sons: J.T. Brooks (Naomi), Dothan, Wayne Brooks, Slocomb, Bishop J.L. Brooks (Krystal), Slocomb, James Walter Brooks, Greenville, SC and Glen Arthur Brooks (Patricia), Ozark; one sister: Bonnie Ruth Grubbs, Detroit, MI; 26 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; numerous great-great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
