Oscar Eugene Hughes

Mr. Oscar Eugene Hughes of Hartford passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loving family.  He was 76.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 1, 2022 in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Slocomb with Rev. Johnny Belcher officiating.  Interment will follow in the Hartford City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.

Mr. Hughes was born March 1, 1946 in Geneva County to the late Wilton Avery and Cela Mae Brown Hughes. Oscar proudly served six years in the Alabama Army National Guard and retired from Dunbarton Corporation in 2015 as the President and CEO. He was an avid Auburn fan, loved spending time with his family, and will be dearly missed.

In addition to his parents, his 1st wife, Betty Sue Ryles Hughes; and two brothers: Jesse Lawrence Hughes, and Jerry Mack Hughes all preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Marsha Jane Spann Hughes; son, Michael Allen Hughes (Katie); brothers: Henry Franklin Hughes, and David Jacklin “Jack” Hughes (Martha); mother-in-law, Betty Sue Bottoms; sisters-in-law: Lisa Spann Ellenburg, and Betty Wombles Hughes; numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
