Nellie Mae “Net” Simmons

February 4, 1925 — December 10, 2021

Mrs. Nellie Mae “Net” Simmons of Slocomb went home to be with her Lord, Friday, December 10, 2021. She was 96.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 13, 2021, at Malvern Baptist Church with Rev. Hosea Parker and Rev. Jeff Peacock officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb directing.

The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to service time.

Mrs. Simmons was born February 4, 1925 in the Wicksburg Community to the late J.C. and Leola Gilly Brannon. Net met and fell in love with her late husband of 57 years, Delma in Hartford. She was employed as a telephone operator for 25 years until her retirement. She was a woman of faith and a longtime member of Malvern Baptist Church.  Net was known for her southern cooking and enjoyed growing flowers, and was especially fond of her amaryllis. She was an avid bowler and a member of the “Hot Shots” bowling league in Dothan until the young age of 95. Net was a loving mother, adoring grandmother and great grandmother and will be dearly missed.

In addition to her parents, her husband, Delma Aston “D.A.” Simmons; sister, Inez Chalker; and brothers: Ray Brannon and Harold Brannon, all preceded her in death.

Survivors include her son, Lamar Simmons (Linda), Slocomb; grandchildren: David Simmons (Sharon), Dothan, and Janet Peacock (Jeff), Dothan; great grandchildren: Brantley Simmons (Olivia), Dothan, Bailee Simmons, Dothan, and Gracie, Grant, Parker & Brannon Peacock, Dothan; several nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
