Mary Lounell Bateman Merritt

Mrs. Mary Lounell Bateman Merritt of Cottonwood passed away, Friday, February 9, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loving family.  She was 76.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon. on Monday, February 12, 2018 in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory in Slocomb with Rev. Hughvon King and Terry Glover officiating.  Interment will follow in the Memory Hill Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 11:00 a.m. until service time.  Mrs. Merritt was born May 8, 1941 in Geneva County to the late Benjamin Franklin and Era B. Cochran Bateman. Mary was a loving wife, adoring mother and grandmother who enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family.  She was a women of faith and will be dearly missed.  In addition to her parents, her husband, Woodrow "Bud" Merritt; son, Dale Glen Merritt; brothers: Joseph, Bobby Earl and Alex Bateman; sister, Betty Jean Powell all preceded her in death.  Survivors include daughter, Janice F. Truett (William); sons: Woody M. Merritt (Elaine), Randy S. Merritt (Cathy) and Jeffery A. Merritt; fifteen grandchildren; several great grandchildren; sister, Blondell Wilson; brother, Gary Bateman; several nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
