Lorena Alzata Bedsole Leger of Taylor, passed away at her home on Thursday, May 28, 2026. She was 88.
A Celebration of her life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 30, 2026, at Malvern Baptist Church with Reverend Hosea Parker and Reverend Tim Bedsole officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb directing.
The family will receive friends beginning at 9:00 a.m. and continuing until service time.
Lorena was born on December 3, 1937, in Malvern, to the late J.T. and Allie Mae Dorriety Bedsole. A graduate of Slocomb High School, she devoted many years to serving in school cafeterias throughout the area, including as manager at Honeysuckle and assistant manager at Grandview. Lorena was also widely known throughout the Wiregrass community and at the Doug Tew concession stand for her beloved homemade chili dogs. A faithful member of Malvern Baptist Church, she cherished her faith, enjoyed cheering on the Alabama Crimson Tide, and spent her free time crocheting, coloring, and reading.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Barnis Lamar Leger; her son, Joey Thomas Leger; grandchildren, Harley Evans, Sam Leger, and Max Leger; sisters, Rebecca King and Joyce Blakey; and brothers, Kenith Bedsole and James Bedsole.
She is survived by her sons, Bobby Leger (Lynn), Michael Leger, and Richard Leger (Kim); grandchildren, Brandy Evans (Alan), Travis Leger (Gabby), Ethan Johnson, Carrie Leger, Reid Leger (Emma), Charlie Leger, and Hunter Leger (Kaleighahna); great-grandchildren, Alan Evans Jr. (Marquia), Patience Evans, Nathan Morgan, Emmett Leger, Emma Leger, Malahki
Whitaker, and Isabella Whitaker; great-great-grandchild, Raidyn Evans; sisters, Evelyn Glover (Hubert), Jean Lewis (James), and Dora Chappell (Larry); sisters-in-law, Dorothy Sue Pope Bedsole and Linda Sorrells Bedsole; along with many other extended family members and friends.
Lorena will be remembered for her hardworking spirit, her love for family, and the kindness she shared with everyone who knew her.
