Lewis Junior “Vern” Kirkland

Mr. Lewis Junior “Vern” Kirkland of Slocomb went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 10, 2019 at Noland Hospital.  He was 68.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 13, 2019 in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Slocomb with Rev. Johnny Strickland officiating.  Interment will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Mr. Kirkland was born March 3, 1951 in Geneva County to the late Omar and Nellie Phillips Kirkland.  Junior was a simple family man who enjoyed spending time in the fields on his tractor.  He was a loving husband, adoring father, and PawPaw and will be profoundly missed by his family, friends and community.

In addition to his parents, a brother, G.W. Kirkland; and his father and mother-in-law, Spencer and Pearl Brooks all preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Brooks Kirkland; daughters: Tanya Kirkland (E.J.), and Chasity Causey (Guy); son, Josh Kirkland (Kaitlyn); grandchildren: Summer Nelson, Emma Causey, Gabbie Causey, Alli Kate Causey, Olivia Kirkland, and Spencer Kirkland; several cousins and other extended family and friends.
