Mrs. Katie Nell Smith of Slocomb passed away Sunday, January 19, 2014 at Flowers Hospital. She was 83.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22 in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home with Rev. Dan Raley officiating. Burial will follow in New Providence Baptist Church Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory of Slocomb directing.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 2:00 p.m. until service time.
Mrs. Katie was born July 21, 1930 in Houston County to the late Homer Lee and Ora Lee Byrd McCullough. A faithful Christian, Mrs. Katie loved the Lord and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She owned and operated Kate’s Flowers and Gifts in Slocomb for many years. She possessed a kind heart and gentle spirit, was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 34 years, Cletus Smith; four brothers: Robert McCullough, Billy McCullough, Benny McCullough and John McCullough.
Survivors include her children: Perron Herrington (Michelle), Slocomb, Lamar Smith (Felicia), Dothan, Marie Butler (Gerald), Slocomb and Betty Lamb, Dothan; nine grandchildren: Joshua Herrington (Ashley), Ohio, Brendon Herrington (Katie), Hartford, Miranda Shaw, Slocomb, Michelle Smith, Dothan, Lindsey Smith, Dothan, Michael Butler (Rosie), Slocomb, Lisa Jenkins (Curtis), Slocomb, Jimmy Skipper (Wendy) and Cathy Lisenby (Rodger), Dothan; numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; sisters: Carolyn Calhoun, Rehobeth, Peggy Elrod (Johnny), Canadian, OK and Patricia Rinnert, Seattle, WA; brothers: Ronnie McCullough, (Kathy), of Webb and Donald Ray McCullough, Cottondale, FL; numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
