Jerry Albert Murphy

Mr. Jerry Albert Murphy of Fadette passed away Sunday, January 20, 2019 at Southeast Health. He was 78.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Slocomb with Rev. Chris Adams and Rev. Dennis Singletary officiating. Burial will follow in the New Hinson Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday beginning at 10:00 a.m. and continuing until service time.

Mr. Murphy was born October 9, 1940 in Geneva County to the late Albert and Margie Kirkland Murphy. Mr. Murphy enjoyed fishing, farming and spending time with his family especially the time he spent with his granddaughters Christmas shopping every year. Jerry was Southern Baptist by faith and served as deacon at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. He was a doer of God’s word. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and great grandfather who will be dearly missed.

In addition to his parents, step-son, Greg Lassiter preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Myra Murphy, Slocomb; sons: Tim Murphy (Lisa), Jacksonville, FL, Tony Murphy, Fadette and step-son, Mark Lassiter (Amy), Hartford; step-daughter, Donna Sue Hightower (Alan), Dothan; grandchildren: Kaylan Murphy, Kassie Murphy, Kylee Murphy, Jake Lassiter, Hannah Mclendon, Jason Hightower and Derek Hightower; great-grandchildren: Bella Mclendon and Wesley Mclendon; sisters: Linda Edmondson (Charlie), Wicksburg, Janice Wack, Fadette and Wanda Key (Philip), Fadette; brother, Carl Murphy (Debbie), Fadette; nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
