Mr. James S. Metcalf went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 2, 2017 at his home after an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 3, 2017 at Bay Springs Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory of Slocomb directing.
The family will receive friends at the church on Monday beginning at 1:00 p.m. and continuing until service time.
Mr. Metcalf was born to the late Willie Pitt and Frances Sorrells Metcalf. He was a dedicated servant of Christ and a proud veteran of the United States Navy. James enjoyed beekeeping, woodworking and was an avid Alabama fan. He was a loving father and grandfather who will be dearly missed.
In addition to his parents, his wife, Patricia Ann Metcalf of Dothan preceded him in death.
Survivors include two sons: Mickey Metcalf (Vicki), Cottonwood and Jody Metcalf (Susan), Dothan; his grandchildren: Daniel Metcalf (Kathy), Deana Pullman (Billy), Salena Metcalf (Todd), Ashley Phillips (Anna Kate) and Blake Metcalf (Megan); several great-grandchildren; six sisters: Willie Dell Savelle, Atlanta, GA, Catherine Singletary, Slocomb, Nell Williams, Dothan, Hatti Jackola, Virginia, Martha Cox, Winter Haven, FL and Patsy Metcalf, Winter Haven, FL; several nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
The family wishes to send a heartfelt thanks to everyone for their visits, calls, food, prayers and concerns during his illness.
