James Earl Killingsworth

December 18, 1942 — June 6, 2022

Mr. James Earl Killingsworth of Newton passed away Monday, June 6, 2022 at his home. He was 79.

Graveside services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 in the Pilgrim’s Rest Cemetery with Rev. Kenneth Chancellor and Ned Sconyers officiating and Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb directing.

Mr. Killingsworth was born December 18, 1942 in Clayhatchee to the late John Wesley and Thelma Austin Killingsworth. James was a graduate of Wicksburg High School where he was known for baseball. He, Jeanette, and Wes traveled the United States attending several college and major league ball games. James Earl served in the Army for four years. Serving in Germany and receiving several metals during his service. He was employed at Fort Rucker until his retirement. He loved his God and was an active member of Pilgrim’s Rest Baptist Church for over 50 years and serving as Usher during this time.

In lieu of flowers the family request that contributions be made to Pilgrim’s Rest Cemetery Fund, 3176 Cumbie Road, Newton, AL 36352.

In addition to his parents, his brother, John Howard Killingsworth all preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Hollis Killingsworth; son, Curtis Wesley “Wes” Killingsworth; sister, Betty Grasso; brothers: Billy, Bobby (Candy), Wayne and Ronald Killingsworth; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Johnny Mack and Janet Hollis; several nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
