Grace "Gracie" E. Saunders Thomas

Mrs. Grace "Gracie" E. Saunders Thomas of Hartford went home to be with the Lord Saturday, January 16, 2016 at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 18 at Hartford United Methodist Church with Rev. Teresa Gilland and Rev. Jean Spikes officiating.  Interment will follow in the Hartford City Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory of Slocomb directing.  The family will receive friends at the church Monday from 1:00 p.m. until service time.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Hartford United Methodist Church.

Gracie was born November 9, 1928 in Seminole County Georgia to the late Alva Cater and Grace Sheffield Saunders. A graduate of Huntingdon College, Gracie taught at Hartford Elementary School until her retirement.  She was a faithful member of Hartford First United Methodist Church.  Gracie exhibited a vibrant faith, a positive outlook on life and a wonderful sense of humor.  She loved her family dearly.

In addition to her parents, her husband, James A. Thomas, Sr.; two sons: James A. Thomas, Jr. and Richard Keith Thomas preceded her in death.

Survivors include two sisters: Joyce Saunders Brannon of Bonifay, Florida, Jane Saunders Potter of Tallahassee, Florida; a brother, Alva (Al) Cater Saunders, Jr. and his wife Erin, of Evergreen, Alabama; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
