Mr. Donald Ward Hidle of Slocomb passed away Saturday, December 16, 2023, at Flowers hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was 81 years old.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, with Zachary Hayes officiating in the chapel of Sorrells funeral home in Slocomb.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday beginning at 1:00 pm and continuing until service time.
Mr. Hidle was born in Hartford, Alabama to the late Bryant Harding and Margaret Ward Hidle. Don was a member of the Army National Guard and a graduate of Slocomb High School. During his lifetime, he was employed as a meat cutter and a long-haul truck driver. He enjoyed raising cows, fishing, gardening, spending time with his family and being an avid Minnesota Vikings fan.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara Byrd Hidle, Slocomb; two daughters: Alisia Pritchett (Jerry), Slocomb, and Olivia Smith (Jay), Dothan; one son: James (Donnie) (Jennifer Adkins) Hidle, Milton, Florida. Grandchildren: Magan Smith, Jerod Pritchett, Justin Pritchett (Natalie Bowen), Bryant Jakob Hidle. One great granddaughter: Paisley Joy Pritchett. Five sisters: Sandra Hicks, Ann Harris (Roy), Delores Killian (Jerry), Susan Dillard (Phillip), Mary Fugate; two brothers: Dennis Hidle (MaryAnn) and Tim Hidle (Linda). He had several nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
Pallbearers will be James (Donnie) Hidle, Jerod Pritchett, Justin Pritchett, Bryant Hidle, Dennis Leon Hidle and Jimmy Hicks, with alternates being Jeremy Pritchett and Jamie Byrd.
The Honorary Pallbearer is his granddaughter, Magan Smith.
