Mr. Buford Benefield of Dothan passed away Saturday, November 16, 2013 at the family residence surrounded by his family.  He was 86.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 19 in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Martin officiating.  Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Dothan with Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory of Slocomb directing.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.

Mr. Benefield was born on July 16, 1927 in Dale County to the late Albert and Gertrude Smith Benefield. He was a member of the Faith Tabernacle Community Church. He was a fantastic farmer, having farmed several hundred acres in the Wicksburg area. He just simply loved to see a seed grow out of the ground. He retired from the Houston County Road & Bridge department in 1994. He was a great husband, father and grandfather who loved his family with all his heart and will be missed so much. He loved the Lord and lived for him daily.

In addition to his parents, seven brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Shirley Marchman Benefield; children: Debry Barnett (Charlie),  Brenda Jolly (Bruce), Randy Hughes (Page), Tami Hicks, Charles Hughes (Leigh Anne); grandchildren: Michael Maloy (Brianna), Ashley Maloy (Valerie), Brandon Hughes, Daniel Hughes (Laura), Jeremy Hughes, Samantha Hicks, Justin Hughes (Jade), John Hughes (Karlee), Aaron Hughes, John Hicks, Kacey Hughes, Morgan Posey, Landen Posey, Lindsey McDonald and Jacob McDonald; 16 great grandchildren; sister, Willene Burnett, brothers: Ben Crawford (Marj) and Coy Crawford; sister-in-law, Faye Crawford, several nieces, nephews and his canine companion, Benji.

Serving as pallbearers will be Mr. Benefield’s grandsons.
